Nyandarua National Polytechnic was recognized and awarded a trophy and certificate for having the highest number of female trainees participating in the Dual TVET programme, which is conducted both at the institution and in industry.
The Polytechnic was honoured for promoting gender mainstreaming in Dual TVET by GIZ during a gala dinner held in Sagana for the Mt. Kenya Region awards. Our Chief Principal, Dr. Jane Gitau, led the NyNP team in receiving the award. The Dual TVET approach in the Mt. Kenya Region is implemented under the Promotion of Youth Employment and TVET Programme with support from the Governments of Germany and Finland, on behalf of the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
In this approach, at least 50% of the training takes place in a workplace, allowing trainees to gain practical experience directly from the industry. This system helps trainees develop the competencies required in the job market, improves their employability, and ensures that the skills they acquire align with industry needs.
