The swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected 2025–2026 NYAPOTA Students’ Council was held on 10ᵗʰ July 2025. During the event, the elected student leaders officially took their oath of office, marking the beginning of their leadership journey within the Polytechnic community.The council comprises the following leaders: Teddy Otieno Saka (President), Veronica Nyambura Kariuki (Deputy President), Simon Karoki Wang’ombe (Secretary General), Zakayo Karanja Muriu (CS Finance), Moses Oponi (CS, Education, Research and Training), Benson Kimani Wainaina (CS, Sports, Culture and Creative Arts), Irine Mugure Ngirau (CS, Catering, Boarding, Health and Environment), and Boniface Muiruri Wangui (Deputy CS, Catering, Boarding, Health and Environment and Deputy).During the ceremony, the student leaders were reminded that they are trainees before they are leaders and that leadership is not about privilege but about responsibility. High-Yield, High Honors: Nyandarua National Polytechnic on the Dairy Map.Nyandarua National Polytechnic continues to lead in agricultural innovation and practical training through its commitment to modern dairy farming. The institution is currently rearing a remarkable Holstein Friesian breed, black and white in color, with individual animals weighing approximately 500 kilograms. This breed is not only a symbol of quality livestock management but also a valuable resource for the training and upskilling of our agriculture trainees.The Holstein Friesian, originally from the Netherlands and known globally for its superior dairy traits, exhibits key characteristics that make it ideal for commercial milk production. This breed is large-framed, with the classic black and white coat, a calm and docile temperament, and currently yields 30 liters of milk per day. It also features strong udder conformation that supports efficient milking, and its high genetic potential. To further enhance performance, Nyandarua National Polytechnic is implementing a selective breeding program aimed at upgrading this breed to pure pedigree status. “As we work toward building a high-yielding, purebred Holstein Friesian herd, Nyandarua National Polytechnic remains steadfast in its mission to support agricultural development, food security, and youth empowerment,” said Mr. Wallace Kiiru, Head of Agricultural and Environmental Studies at the Polytechnic.This effort is part of a broader strategy to improve the genetic quality of our dairy herd and provide trainees with hands-on experience in animal genetics, artificial insemination, dairy herd management, and modern farming practices, in line with the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) approach.We are proud to showcase this exceptional breed at the ongoing Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show at Nakuru Showground. Its participation has not only attracted attention but also earned recognition, securing 2nd and 3rd positions in the Friesian category.
